10 Reasons to hire me instead of going to the dept store

Hi friends!

THANK YOU for helping my business grow! I have put together a few reasons why it is beneficial to you and your family to hire a professional instead of going to a department store studio. Here they are, in no particular order:

1.) KNOWLEDGE! I recently saw an ad on the internet that an unnamed studio (in the Polaris mall, 2nd floor) was hiring for photographers (no experience necessary) at minimum wage. I believe this goes to show the level of expertise your photographer will have.

2.) PRICE! You will pay far less for my services than at a studio. The printing prices cannot be beat.

3.) LOCATIONS! I have a large number of locations to go throughout the city. I also have a home studio. This ensures that your family photos will be as unique as you are.

4.) PERSONAL CARE! I care about your kids! The more you come back, the more they know me and feel comfortable. When you shoot with me, your children are allowed to run free, without the stuffiness of forcing them to sit for photos. It may seem chaotic at the time of the shoot, but your photos always come out great. I have a toddler myself, so I know how they work!

5.) UNDERSTANDING! Your kids nap at 2:00? Great, we will shoot when they get up. I am flexible to ensure they are at their best.

6.) DISCRETION! Thinking of getting a boudoir set done? You will be in the privacy of my home. We will work until you feel comfortable. I will even provide the wine, should you so choose!

7.) EDITING! Mall studios throw filters on your photos. I hand edit each one. I will enhance your eyes, hair, skin... put that extra sunlight over your shoulder. I also offer a wide variety of design services. A montage perhaps? No problem.

8.) QUANTITY! Most often, we will get between 15-25 images. Mall studios often offer 5.

9.) PHOTO DISC! Most of my shoots include a photo disc you can print from.

10.) I LOVE WHAT I DO! I enjoy every second of working with you. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than when a woman gasps at her OWN beauty, or when a mother cries tears of joy at beautiful images of her children.

Holiday photo shoot ideas

Hey there everyone!

I can't believe we are into fall already! Summer certainly flew by! I am getting so excited for the shoots I have scheduled for the next couple of months. The Halloween shoot will be super fun. I plan on making a really neat and spooky scene for the kids to sit in front of. If you are signed up for the event and have any special requests, please feel free to send them my way.

As far as the Christmas shoot goes, I am tossing around a few possibilities...

My first idea would be a white background with interchangeable props that each family could choose from. I would probably get a few staggered sizes of colored tinsel trees, some various sizes of packages, and some tree bulbs. (Imagine a toddler on a white backdrop with a ton of oversized tree bulbs, aka: super cute!!!) Depending on how many are in the shoot, there are quite a few possibilities with those props. This concept would be a more modern and colorful one.

We could also do a more traditional scene with a large Christmas tree next to a fireplace. This is obviously not going to "pop" like the first idea, but would have a more wholesome, old fashioned feel.

The third idea would be a Santa’s lap option, but I think most parents will do that at the mall.

So far I have 10 people signed up for the holiday shoot, which leaves a few appointments still up for grabs. Please give me your input on the theme so I can have plenty of time to work out a fantastic scene!

My Niche

I figured when I started pursuing my photography more seriously, that eventually my "niche" would become apparent. I knew I had the most interest in photographing people as opposed to things or nature... but further still I needed to figure out what style of portraiture I would enjoy the most... The past few months I have taken many photos for many people. I have captured the young & old, the beautiful & bizarre.

As it turns out, photographing children is what has come to intrigue me the most. I was looking at this photo today:

And it hit me like a ton of bricks. I love capturing childhood. I LOVE IT. It helps me remember the magic that it was to be a child. Many wise people have said we spend our entire childhood wanting to be grown up, and once we grow up, all we want to do is recapture childhood. There is nothing more fleeting and precious as the joy of innocence and youth... It brings a tear to my eye. I get so much fulfillment in capturing these moments. It is something to hold on to forever... that happens in a split second. The little girl above will grow up, and surely experience joy many times throughout her life, but never will it be exactly the same joy as it was to twirl in my backyard when she was 3. The most simple things children find pure happiness in. It's something we all could use a lesson in... and hopefully I can help others catch a glimpse into the happiness that is youth.

New Stuff

This past week I had the oppurtunity to photography a HUGE family of 9, as well as a good friend's little girl. Both shoots were a huge success!

I am getting excited for all of the fall family shoots I have lined up. There are so many beautiful parks around Columbus that will be just GORGEOUS settings this fall! I have a few days left, so if you would like to set up a shoot, please send me an email.

I am also working on ideas for the Halloween shoot at my house for the kiddies! I am going to have SO much fun designing a backdrop!

Cara learns to use textures

Today I learned how to apply textures to my photographs. I honestly feel like I want to dump everything I've ever done, and redo it all. If I didn't have a family and a job, I would probably obsessively do so. This opens up an entirely new world as far as editing goes. I am SO excited! Here are a few that I did today. I realize these may not be SUPER impressive, but hey, I just learned!

SO yeah, I will have lots of fun with this. Something that truly has endless possibilities.

Babies and Boobies ;)

It was a great weekend for taking photos. The "one year old" shoot I did with Griffin was great. He and his family were super fun, especially for it being so early in the morning. By the time I left, it looked like someone had thrown a bucket of water on me. That's what I get for rolling around in morning grass for a couple of hours ;)

Later that day, I did Sara's boudoir photos. We had SUCH a great time! It was naturally a little uncomfortable for her at first, but I would show her a photo on the camera every now and again, and her confidence kept growing. That combined with a few glasses of wine, we had a great time. I absolutely LOVE when I can help someone feel beautiful. It's easy for the confidence level in women to get really low from time to time; however, I think Sara's self esteem meter should be good for a while! What a hottie!

Have a really fun shoot scheduled this weekend with what I have coined "The beautiful family". The Joseph's are one of those families that could very easily grace the cover of Better Homes and Gardens. I am SO excited to have the opportunity to work with them!

Seriously, I can't believe this is happening for me. Every day there is a new booking. I am so honored and humbled that people like what I am doing. I finally feel that I am doing something that fulfills me. I am SO thankful!!!

15 Minutes 'till the weekend!

I am SO excited for the 3 day weekend! Tomorrow morning I will be shooting baby Griffin for his "one year old" photos! Babies are always so much fun to shoot. It seems there is a direct correlation between how well someone photographs and their age. The younger the model, the easier to work with ;)

Tomorrow evening, I will be shooting Sara for her "boudoir" set as a gift for her husband-to-be. I ordered special lights for the occasion, but with the holiday weekend, the shipping was delayed... so thanks to Todd Eko, I will have lighting on loan, and all is well with the world.

Earlier this week I had the privilege of shooting the Alloway family. We went to Inniswoods (aka: prettiest park ever) and had a TON of fun. They were super friendly people with a great outlook on life. Their two sons were AWESOME, and I ended up with a ton of amazing photos. Here are a couple that I really liked:
